Retail giant John Lewis wishes viewers a Snappy Holiday!
At last! It’s refreshing to see John Lewis take a satirical approach to their latest ad, Snapper: The Perfect Tree. Their blatant past mission to make viewers blub has been replaced with a 20ft Venus Flytrap – and wannabe Christmas tree, snapping at the family pooch and regurgitating presents.
John Lewis is not the first brand this year to take a different approach, with Marks & Spencer practically putting their finger up (or should we say blow torches) to Christmas traditions.
It was today (November 9, 2023) that the nation’s been waiting for, as British retailer John Lewis leads the pack with their 2023 Christmas ad.

Original Soundtrack
The John Lewis Christmas advert 2023 soundtrack is Festa, performed by operatic superstar Andrea Bocelli. This year’s song was a special composition written just for the campaign, which makes a welcome change from the brand’s usual covers by well-known artists.
Festa means “celebration” in Italian and was written by Le Feste Antonacchi, with lyrics approved by Bocelli, and puts a sweet spin on the often over-sentimental music we hear in the festive period.
Speaking of his role in the advert, Bocelli said: “I am delighted to take part in this wonderful and unique tradition of Christmas storytelling. It is very special for me given the great support this will bring to both the John Lewis and Andrea Bocelli foundations. Joy to all of your worlds this Christmas!”
The soundtrack will be released in a longer form charity single, with a proportion of proceeds going to the John Lewis Partnership’s Building Happier Futures charities.

New Creative Partnership since 2009
It seems John Lewis followed their mantra of #TraditionsGrow as they unveil their own evolution with the first campaign from Saatchi & Saatchi.
There were big shoes to fill after working with adam&eveDDB for the part 14 years, and Saatchi & Saatchi sure pulled it off.

Social Media Reaction
We took to twitter to see how the nation’s viewers are reacting to the John Lewis Christmas Ad 2023, and the majority seem to be giving a thumbs up all round.
First time your Christmas ad has made me laugh instead of cry! 😆

As a fan of Christmas trees and Venus Fly Traps, as well as Andrea Bocelli it’s a thumbs up from me 👍
To wrap it up...
It’s safe to say that Snapper: The Perfect Tree, has outdone the likes of Excitable Edgar and Moz the Monster with its playful charm. This Venus flytrap not only captures the festive spirit but devours it whole, blending humour and heart in a way that sets it apart
John Lewis’ Let Your Traditions Grow campaign is ultimately about evolving traditions – quietly reflected in the choice of representing 15% of UK single-parent households.
Delivering a similar message to it’s competitor Marks and Spencer – reminding us that we shouldn’t be constrained by Christmas norms, John Lewis triumphs with their mischievous 20ft-tall dog-eating plant that vomits headphones.
So snow hats off to the John Lewis Christmas Advert 2023!
